UK visa schemes
Tier 4 (Student) visa
If you have a current student visa you are entitled to work up to 20 hours per week during term-time, and unlimited hours out of term-time, until your visa expires. You do not need to make any changes to your visa to be employed on this basis.
Note that it is illegal to work more than 20 hours per week across any number of posts, and, if this is exceeded, the UKVI may revoke your student visa, and require you to leave the UK.
Tier 4 (Student) to Tier 2 visa transfer
If you have an unexpired student visa and are offered a post at the University we may be able to transfer your work permission status from Tier 4 (student with part-time work) to Tier 2 General (up to full-time work) for graduate posts which have been extensively advertised.
This transfer requires the University obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship for the post.
If this sponsorship application is successful we will provide you with the CoS reference number. This will enable you to apply for an entry visa based on your employment in the sponsored post.
