They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. The scenes contained in these galleries help us to appreciate the extraordinary abundance and size of species once found in the oceans. They also help us to understand the decimation of marine life by people. The images in these galleries dated prior to 1923 are copyright free and can be downloaded and used without restriction. Other images may still be in copyright. High-resolution scans of non-copyright images are available from Callum Roberts on request.
