A European Union 6th Framework funded project with €2.5 million funding over 3 years |
The Project
Osteocord has four primary objectives:
1. | Characterise umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (CB-MSCs) by genomic, proteomic, bioimpedance and immunological profiling, relative to their 'nearest neighbour' stem cell (bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells, BM-MSCs) and pluripotent embryonic stem cells (ES cells).
2. | Determine the expansion and scale-up potential of CB-MSCs.
3. | Determine potential applications of CB-MSCs in orthopaedic tissue engineering.
4. | Determine the ethical and social impact of the proposed work.
Osteocord's work is divided into four overlapping phases incorporating seven Work Packages each of which is led by a different Consortium Partner.
