EU flag

A European Union 6th Framework funded project with €2.5 million funding over 3 years

The Project

Osteocord has four primary objectives:

1.

Characterise umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (CB-MSCs) by genomic, proteomic, bioimpedance and immunological profiling, relative to their 'nearest neighbour' stem cell (bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells, BM-MSCs) and pluripotent embryonic stem cells (ES cells).

2.

Determine the expansion and scale-up potential of CB-MSCs.

3.

Determine potential applications of CB-MSCs in orthopaedic tissue engineering.

4.

Determine the ethical and social impact of the proposed work.

Osteocord's work is divided into four overlapping phases incorporating seven Work Packages each of which is led by a different Consortium Partner.
