Zoom Phone and desk phones (telephony)

Make and receive calls using the internet rather than traditional phone lines with Zoom Phone, a cloud-based phone system. It integrates seamlessly with Zoom, enabling you to easily elevate traditional calls into video meetings.

Key features

  • Voicemail: receive and manage voicemails directly within the Zoom app, with options for voicemail transcription.
  • Call forwarding: forward calls to another number or device, ensuring you never miss important calls.
  • Mobile app integration: make and receive calls from your smartphone, offering flexibility and mobility.
  • Call recording: record calls for later review or documentation, useful for meetings and important conversations.
  • Video integration: easily switch from a voice call to a Zoom video meeting, enhancing collaboration.
  • Call transfers: transfer calls to colleagues seamlessly, whether internally within the University or to external numbers.
  • Caller ID and blocking: display your identity or block unwanted calls, providing control over your communication.
  • Auto-attendant: set up automated greetings and call routing, ensuring callers reach the right department or person efficiently.

Access instructions

Use Zoom Phone via:

  • Zoom app or web browser  – make and receive phone calls directly within the Zoom app or web browser on your computer or mobile device. 
  • On a desk phone – if preferred, you can use a compatible desk phone that supports Zoom Phone. 

To find your number, open Zoom (in the app or web browser) and navigate to the Phone menu.

Available to staff

All staff are automatically given a phone number, which works with Zoom. You can make and receive calls on University-managed and personal devices.

Funded by the University. Charges may apply.

There are no call charges for University departments when using Zoom Phone. If requesting a Zoom desk phone, this will be charged to your department.

You can request a Zoom Phone compatible handset and accessories from IT Services.

  • This service is managed by IT Services and provided by  a third party, Zoom.
  • Unified Communications, part of IT Services, are responsible for monitoring, identifying and fixing local faults. They provide advice and support for local issues.

  • Our service performance and standards have been produced in consultation with our customers, and we monitor the delivery, performance and availability of facilities and services.
