Vault

Vault is a file archiving service. It can be used to store files that need to be retained but are unlikely to be accessed again. The main use is for storing research data which needs to be kept for contractual or other reasons.

This is one of a number of options for storing data at the University.

Key features

  • Uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 Glacier.
  • Scalable cold storage and is appropriate for storing sensitive data.
  • Your data is stored securely in three locations.
  • Retrieving files from Vault can take several days and we may need to charge for large or frequent retrievals.

Service commitments

We expect you to update the owners for a vault as required (for example, if a current owner leaves the University).

A vault must have at least three owners at any given time; each owner has access to the full content of the vault and can add and remove files.

All data must have an expiry date so that it can be managed appropriately.

The following policies apply to all IT services provided by the University.

Availability

This is a beta service, available 24/7.

  • This service is managed by IT Services.
