Panopto (Replay lecture capture)
The University’s supported video hosting and streaming platform; used to record, edit and share lecture captures and other video content.
Key features
- Record timetabled lectures for others to playback in their own time.
- Manually record audio, screen capture and webcam footage with the At Desk Recorder app (available for Windows and Mac).
- View recordings via your web browser or the Panopto mobile app (available from Google Play and the Apple App Store).
- Store and organise your recordings in designated folders:
- Replay lecture capture folders for recordings by module and academic year.
- Ongoing media folders for use with cohorts over multiple years.
- My folder is a private folder for staff, for editing and preparing videos.
- Auto captioning and transcripts for video and audio recordings uploaded to or created in Panopto.

- Staff and most students can view recordings via the Replay Lecture Capture (Panopto) link within your course’s Learn VLE site, the Panopto website or mobile app.
- York Online (distance) students can view recordings via your course’s Canvas VLE site or Panopto mobile app.

Create and edit recordings
- By default, relevant staff can view, create, edit and delete recordings, and students can view recordings.
- Staff can email the Digital Education Team to request additional permissions on students’ behalf.

You can use this service on University-managed and personal devices.
App and web-based
This service works in your web browser and is compatible with Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. The At Desk Recorder app is compatible with Windows and Mac. The mobile app is available for Android and iOS.

Availability
- This is a live service, available 24/7.
- Planned maintenance to Panopto and its related systems will be advertised on the Learn VLE homepage and the Digital Education Team’s Linktree account.

Support
- This service is managed by the Digital Education Team (aka VLE Support).
- They are responsible for monitoring, identifying and fixing faults. Support is available during their opening hours.
Standards
- The Digital Education Team’s service performance and standards have been produced in consultation with customers, and monitor the quality, timeliness and access to facilities and services.
- The standard service level agreement for this service is three working days.
