Mobile phones and wifi plans

Mobile phones and wifi plans are available for staff who require one for business use. 

If you have a student facing hardship, departments can fund mobile wifi for students.

Key features

  • Plans are provided via Vodafone Corporate.
  • They are offered as monthly rolling or fixed-term contract lengths.
  • Range of data options available, including only calls and texts, or only mobile wifi.
  • Apple, Samsung and other devices are available, in a range of specs and colours.

 

Available to staff

This service is available to staff with a valid business case.

Funded by departments

Departments fund this service, subject to approval. There isn’t a cost to you for authorised use. You'll be responsible for unauthorised charges, eg for calls that aren’t included in your plan.

Upgrades

You can upgrade your device whenever you like.

  1. Get the appropriate approval from your line manager or budget holder.
  2. Select a new device (and any required accessories).
  3. Complete our upgrade form.

Short-term contracts and temporary loans

We can provide pay-as-you-go and 30-day connections. Alternatively, we can sometimes supply devices for short-term hire (subject to availability). For more information, please contact Unified Communications.

Rates for inclusive plans

Standard UK Voice Calls

  • Calls to any Vodafone UK mobile or standard UK landline (starting 01, 02 or 03) within the UK: 0p*
  • Calls to other UK mobile networks within the UK: 0p*
  • Calls to UK voicemail: 0p*

UK Video Calls  

One-minute minimum call charge.

  • Video calling to any Vodafone UK mobile within the UK: 29.7p*
  • Video calling to other UK mobile networks within the UK: 46.8p*
  • Video calling to international mobile networks within the UK: 46.8p*

Standard UK Texts

  • Standard UK text message: 0p*
  • Standard UK picture message: 33.3p*
  • Standard UK long text: 15p*
  • Standard UK video message: 51p*

Non-Geographic Calls

One-minute minimum call charge.

  • Non-geographic numbers starting 0500: 0p*
  • Non-geographic numbers starting 0800, 0808: 0p*
  • Non-geographic numbers starting 0870, 0871, 0872, 0843, 0844, 0845: Access charge of 2p a minute plus a service charge* (one-minute minimum call charge)

Premium Rate Calls

  • Premium rate services (starting 09): Access charge of 2p a minute plus a service charge** (one-minute minimum call charge)
  • Voice short codes. These are usually 5-7 numbers long and used for TV or radio shows, competition lines and information services. The service provider will let the customer know the cost of the call: Free to £2.00 per minute (one-minute minimum call charge)

International Calls

  • Calls to the Vodafone Europe Zone 12p
  • Calls to USA and Canada 12p
  • Calls to any other worldwide destination 50p

Directory enquiries call charges

One-minute minimum call charge.

  • Calls to Vodafone’s preferred directory enquiry number (118 881): Access charge of 2p minute, plus a service charge of 80p a minute (one-minute minimum call charge)
  • Calls to directory enquiries numbers (118): Access charge of 2p a minute, plus a service charge** (one-minute minimum call charge)

Staff may use their phones for personal calls/texts. You will not be charged for calls, texts and data that are included in your plan. You will incur a charge if your usage is not included in your plan. You must pay the university any charges you incur.

To pay charges:

  1. visit the Cash Office and pay the required amount, using the work order your device is charged against
  2. pass your receipt to your departmental administrator for filing.

Service commitments

Terms and conditions:

  • Read the mobile phones and plans terms and conditions.
  • All plans with unlimited allowances are subject to fair usage policy.
  • Data caps can be increased in the months you need it, however, if you need more data for two or more consecutive months we will upgrade your plan.

What we expect of you:

  • Departments need to contact us to Terminate a mobile contract. Vodafone will terminate the contract 30 days after we request them to do so.
  • When leaving the University, you should arrange with your department to return any IT equipment you have been provided with. View the staff leavers guidance.

  • This service is managed by Unified Communciations, part of IT Services.
  • Devices, plans and networks are provided by Vodafone Corporate, unless otherwise specified. They are responsible for monitoring, identifying and fixing faults with their services. Support for local issues is available during our opening hours.
