ArcGIS is a package of geographic information system (GIS) software developed and maintained by Esri (esri.com).

Access instructions
- ArcGIS Online can be accessed with your University email and password.
- ArcGIS Pro is installed in our computer labs.
- For other University managed devices running Windows, you can install ArcGIS Pro from the Software Center.
- For other devices, ArcGIS Pro can be installed on Windows.
Available to staff and students
You can use this service on University-managed and personal devices.

Desktop application
The desktop application includes:
- ArcGIS Pro (esri.com) plus extensions: Geographic information system (GIS) application.
- ArcGIS CityEngine (esri.com): Advanced 3D city design software.
ArcGIS Online and apps for the field
ArcGIS Online includes some additional features and applications available under the University’s licence:
- ArcGIS Survey123 (arcgis.com): Design smart forms and surveys.
- Collector for ArcGIS (arcgis.com): Update data in the field, log your location, and put the data you capture back into your central GIS database directly from your phone or mobile device.
ArcGIS Online also acts as a platform to share and access content:
- Course leaders can create groups to restrict materials to specific groups of students or invite external researchers to share content outside the University.
- If you require these permissions please contact IT Services.
Use of the software is allowed in these circumstances:
- Administration and management of the business of the University.
- If a student/researcher is sponsored by a company to complete a PhD/project and the student owns the outcome.
- Overseas use.
Use is prohibited for these circumstances:
- Commercial use (licences for Commercial use can be purchased directly from Esri UK).
- Paid-for research:
- Under the agreement, the University is not allowed to use the software for paid-for research.
- For example, paid-for research includes when a student/researcher is sponsored by a company to complete research and the company then owns the research for use in their commercial business.
Using ArcGIS offline:
- Users with an ArcGIS Online account can request an ArcGIS Pro Licence from IT Services.
- When logged into an ArcGIS Pro installation that is configured to use named user licensing, a user can take their licence offline.
- Standalone authorisations are available for other ArcGIS applications.

- Overseas use is allowed as long as ArcGIS is not being used in one of the countries embargoed by the US ie Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria.
- If you’re going overseas for less than 90 days, please follow the process for how to check out an ArcGIS licence for offline use before you leave.
- If you will be spending longer than 90 days overseas, please contact IT Support for assistance.

Availability
- This is a live service, available 24/7.
- Check the status of this service via the ArcGIS online health dashboard (arcgis.com).
Support
- This service is managed by a third party.
- They are responsible for monitoring, identifying and fixing faults. We provide advice and support for local issues during our opening hours.
- Support is available via Esri (esri.com).
Standards
- Our service performance and standards have been produced in consultation with our customers, and we monitor the delivery, performance and availability of facilities and services.
