Personal web space

Everyone with an IT Services account can create their own web area.

Once you've registered, you can create web pages. These will be available at www-users.york.ac.uk/~yourusername with ‘yourusername’ being your IT Services username (for example abc123).

Key features

  • Your personal web space is yours to create and edit as you choose. The content can be related to your work, studies, interests, society etc, as long as it adheres to Regulation 11: Using University Information.
  • Create static web pages using HTML, CSS and Javascript.
  • Any files stored in your personal web space count towards your filestore quota.

Access instructions

Register for a personal web space

Once you have registered for a personal web space, you will be able to access your web folder from your filestore.

The folder will be called ‘web’. On Windows, the folder will be in your M: drive and on Linux it will be in your home directory.

For other devices, you will need to connect to your York filestore:


Available to staff and students

You can use this service on University-managed devices or personal devices that are connected to your University filestore.

Managed within your filestore

You can connect to your filestore on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Funded by the University

There isn’t a cost to you for standard use.
