Google Meet
Google Meet offers a simple way of conducting video meetings and allows for screen sharing. Zoom is the recommended video conferencing tool at the University, but Google Meet is supported.
This service is part of Google Workspace.
Key features
- Conduct video meetings with up to 100 participants.
- Meetings can be scheduled in advance through Google Calendar.
- Participants don't need a Google account to join a Google Meet.
- Participants can join using the Google Chrome and Firefox web browsers. A mobile app is also available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

- Sign in with your York email address and password.
- There are some limitations to using this service in sanctioned countries.
Available to staff and students
All members of the University are automatically given a personal Google Workspace account, which includes access to this service. You can use this service on University-managed and personal devices.
App and web-based
This service works in your web browser. The mobile app is compatible with Android and iOS.
Funded by the University
There isn’t a cost to you for standard use.
Additional information
Recording of meetings in Google Meet is not currently available for University users - for this reason we would recommend using Zoom if you may need to record any meetings.

- They are responsible for monitoring, identifying and fixing faults. We provide advice and support for local issues during our opening hours.
