Establishing streamlined operational processes and student centred policies to improve the way the University manages the student journey for online learners.

Project overview

The York Online project was undertaken to review the student journey of those taking part in online courses and learning, from enrollment to graduation. Its aim was to identify and address the priority pain points for the management of this journey, and create a more seamless experience.

By enhancing existing data integrations, developing automations and enhancing reporting, the project has helped to reduce manual interventions and improved efficiency and student-facing services.

The project also revised the existing exceptions policies and processes to give students more control of when they undertake study and assessments, as well as overhauled the way in which study breaks or assessment exceptions are requested, approved and processed.

When?

The project concluded in April 2024.

Where?

This project delivered benefits for a number of teams that facilitate the online student journey, including the York Online Support Team, Student Systems and Student Records.

Why?

This work has enabled the University to manage its online learning provision more efficiently at scale. It has also helped to build the foundations for future growth and increased student access to York’s online learning programmes.
