Using digital whiteboard tools

Google will be winding down the digital whiteboard tool Jamboard at the end of 2024.

Jamboard allows up to 50 users to collaborate in real time on a virtual whiteboard via drawings, text or sticky notes. 

There are a number of alternative digital whiteboard tools available to use, summarised here.

Zoom Whiteboard 

Create a whiteboard in a Zoom meeting or as a standalone whiteboard by navigating to ‘More’ and then ‘Whiteboards’ in the Zoom app. Features include templates, meeting tools, history logs, easy access and sharing settings, upload files to Google Drive or export to PDF/ PNG and multiple formatting options including sticky notes, shapes, texts and comments. Confluence whiteboards (Wiki service)

Confluence whiteboards are integrated within our existing Wiki service, meaning you can collaborate directly within your space(s). Login to the Wiki and choose ‘Create’ then ‘Whiteboard’ in the task bar at the top of the screen. You can collaborate with up to 60 Wiki users. Support with using Confluence whiteboards.

Padlet 

Padlet is an online collaboration tool that acts as a virtual noticeboard for sharing content. You can organise content as mind maps, timelines and grids or columns. Getting started with Padlet.

Lucidspark 

Lucidspark is a purpose-built whiteboard tool and includes features such as meeting tools, revision settings, expiration and passcode options and multiple formatting options. This tool is best suited to those who frequently need to host workshops or collaborate frequently in their roles such as Project Managers, Business Analysts etc. We have a limited number of licences which need to be requested and approved through IT Services. Google Slides 

While Google Slides does not have a specific Whiteboard function, it can be used for collaboration by simply asking users to work on one Google Slide file together. If you want each user or breakout group to have their own space to work on, assign them a specific slide number. More information on using Google Slides.
