IT Services over Christmas vacation
IT Support will be closed from 5pm on Friday 20 December, our support services will be available as normal up until this date.
We will reopen at 9am on Thursday 2 January however the Audio Visual team will be unavailable until Monday 6 January.
During the planned Christmas closure, IT Services staff will continue to monitor services remotely and will respond to any IT emergencies.
Please check the IT status page for information on any University-wide issues.
If you think your university account or device has been compromised or other activity of security concern is taking place, email cert@york.ac.uk. Please note, this email address must only be used for cybersecurity emergencies.
Answers to any non urgent issues can be found on our support pages.
If you need to work while you’re away from campus…
You can still access many of our services, including email, filestores and software. If you plan on using the University virtual private network (VPN) or the virtual desktop service (VDS), please set it up in advance so you can check it is working correctly.
Two-factor authentication
If you change your phone over Christmas vacation, don’t forget to update your two-factor authentication settings or you could be locked out of your account.
You can also generate a set of backup codes from Google to use if you have problems logging in to your account with 2FA. Keep these backup codes in a safe place.
Make sure you know your University password
If you’ve received an email telling you that your University password will expire over the Christmas break, we’d recommend that you change your password now so that you don’t get locked out of your account.
