BIOLOGY BULLETIN - SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Submissions are to be sent to bionews@york.ac.uk only.  Submissions to any other email address will be returned to sender.

The deadline for the Bulletin is 5pm each Thursday.  Any submissions received after this time will be held over until the next edition if appropriate.

Each Bulletin is issued for the week commencing the following Monday.

The bionews@york.ac.uk email should be used for Bulletin submissions only.  Any requests for global emails to staff and students in the Department and / or the distribution of posters will be returned to sender.

A title, contact name and email address must be provided for all submissions.  Anonymous submissions are not permitted.

It is possible for attachments (word documents, pdf documents, jpegs, power point, etc.) contained in a submission to be uploaded to the Internet.  It is the responsibility of the person making the submission to ensure that all attachments and weblinks contained in their submission are correct and fully functional.

Unless specified, all submissions will appear in the Bulletin for one week only.  Submissions can be left in the Bulletin for a defined period of consecutive weeks.  Non-consecutive submissions (i.e. to be included once a month or every few weeks) and lists of submissions (i.e. seminar schedules) from persons external to the Department of Biology will not be accepted as the Editor does not have the facilities to ‘hold’ pending articles.  It is the responsibility of the person making the submission to ensure that they send a separate email for each occasion they wish it to appear.

All submissions must be sent as they are to appear in the Bulletin.  The Editor is not responsible for the drafting of submissions or editing pieces of text. The Editor reserves the right to truncate long submissions and to create a link to a separate document or webpage where any submission is too long to be included in the Bulletin.

The Bulletin’s font and layout is determined by a bespoke style sheet. All submissions will be altered to fall in line with the style of the Bulletin. The Editor reserves the right to alter any submission to ensure that it meets Accessibility criteria.

The Editor reserves the right to, but does not guarantee to, amend grammar, spelling and punctuation.

The Biology Bulletin and the Biology Bulletin Index are public access and their contents can be viewed and searched for on the Internet. It is therefore the responsibility of the person making the submission to ensure that consent has been sought from any person whose name or image is to be published in the Bulletin, or its hyperlinks, prior to submission. In submitting an article for publication a person is deemed to have given consent for their own name to be used as the contact.

If a person is unsure about all or part of their submission being able to be viewed on the Internet, the Editor advises that they upload the information onto an area of the Internet that is password protected (i.e. Departmental webpages) and provide a link to that area.

Submissions should be science related, promoting the University/associated charities or deemed of interest to the Department.

The Editor reserves the right to omit any submission deemed to be offensive or inappropriate.

Publication of 'Website of the Week' submissions are at the discretion of the Editor.

The views expressed in the Biology Bulletin are those of the respective contributors and are not necessarily shared by the Editor. The Editor claims no responsibility for the quality and security of the hyperlinks included in the Bulletin.
