Gardener / Team Leader
Main responsibilities
- Cutting grass and hedges
- Landscaping and repairing paths
- Pruning and shrubbery maintenance (including fertilising and applying pesticides) and seasonal bedding
- Tree surgery
- Wildfowl husbandry
- Propagating plants/trees
- Machinery maintenance
- Maintaining grass sports pitches and preparing the synthetic all weather pitches
- Maintaining the University lake and associated water courses
- Snow clearing and gritting as a team leader, when required
- To act up in the absence of the Head Gardener
Qualifications and Experience
- Essential: Full Driving Licence, NPTC certificates in PA1 & PA6a. Experience in grounds maintenance and landscaping
- Desirable: Recognised horticultural qualification. Experience in propogation, arboriculture, team leader experience, snow clearing service, wildfowl husbandry
Skills
- Essential: Proficient in the use of tractors and ride-on & pedestrian grass cutting machinery and powered hand tools. Proficient in the handling and application of pesticides. Skilled in soft landscaping including seeding, turfing and planting
- Desirable: Experience in using equipment such as chainsaws and elevated work platforms. Proficient in propagating and growing techniques and in the husbandry of young trees
