Casual workers on student visas
Student visas carry legal restrictions on the number of hours of paid/unpaid work that can be undertaken while studying.
As a student visa sponsor, the University is required by the UK government to maintain a complete and accurate record for each student holding a student visa.
Failure to monitor the hours worked, or breaches of any restriction could have serious consequences, including significant civil penalties and risking our ability to sponsor students and staff.
Students holding student visas who have a work restriction in their passport or Biometric Residence Permit will usually be able to work for a maximum of 10 or 20 hours a week while studying and full-time during specified vacation periods. Work restrictions apply to all work, paid or unpaid, and any training.
So that these restrictions are not exceeded, the University must monitor the hours worked by students holding a student visa. This is one reason why all casual work must be booked in advance through Dashboard.
