Apprentices
Apprenticeships enable an individual to combine paid employment with supported study towards a qualification.
As a payer of the apprenticeship levy, York can access funds to support the training element of apprenticeships, reducing the cost to departments.
If you have a vacancy within your team, you should consider offering it as an apprenticeship.
Recruiting an apprentice
Once you have identified an opportunity for an apprenticeship, departments should:
- ensure there is adequate funding for the salary (the Apprenticeship Levy only pays the cost of the training programme)
- discuss the level of apprenticeship, type of qualification, duration, cost and possible training providers with the Staff Apprenticeships Team. We will talk to training providers to confirm availability and costs before confirming arrangements
- follow the usual recruitment process to appoint the apprentice
For further details on the process, please refer to the Apprenticeships at York: Managers' Handbook.
The Staff Apprenticeships Team will coordinate the use of levy funds to support the apprenticeship.
