Triumph for Mentally Fit York as £16,638 raised in the Great York Walk 2024!
Posted on 30 May 2024
Walkers embarked on routes ranging from 10k (6.25 miles) to a challenging 40k (25 miles) with the journey beginning at Greg's Place on Campus West and weaving through iconic landmarks in York such as the Millennium Bridge and York Minster, culminating back on campus at Heslington Hall.
The event was held to raise funds for Mentally Fit York, a fund dedicated to enhancing mental health locally and globally through groundbreaking research and initiatives. An incredible £16,638 was raised through the walker’s fundraising efforts and the donations of family, friends and supporters.
Reflecting on the day with pride, one walker shared:
“Honestly, it was the hardest but best thing I’ve ever done.”
Another echoed the sentiment:
“It was a really fun event! I’d love to do it again and I’d definitely recommend it to others.”
The money will go towards supporting projects like the Institute of Mental Health Research at the University, which brings together ambitious, enquiring academics and students with partners working at the forefront of mental health.
Thanks to the dedication of our walkers and the generosity of supporters, The Great York Walk will enable Mentally Fit York to expand its insights, extend its reach, and facilitate even more collaboration.
The University of York extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated, donated, and supported The Great York Walk 2024. Your contributions are making a significant impact on mental health in York and beyond.
