Giving Day 2023 raises £309,476 in York's 60th year
Posted on 15 November 2023
Thanks to over 859 staff, alumni, students and supporters of York, we are delighted to have raised a grand total of £309,476.
This is the largest amount we have ever raised on a Giving Day, and we could not have done it without such amazing support.
£100,000 of donations on the day were doubled thanks to an incredibly generous match donation given by Dr Anthony H. Wild, an alumnus and supporter of the University. Other supporters successfully challenged members of the York community to go above and beyond in aid of students and mental health causes at York, for which we are very grateful, and a full list of the challenges set (and unlocked) can be found here.
Thanks to the generosity of the York community, we will be able to support more students to access a life changing education, set more students up for the best chance of a successful career in the area they are passionate about, and make greater advances to improve mental health.
Here are some of the comments left by donors on Giving Day, which really highlight the University of York community coming together to support the causes that matter to them:
"I have loved my time at York so I would like to help people who face barriers access the university and have the opportunity to study here."
"York is a brilliant place of safety, refuge & community."
"I had a wonderful time at York, which altered the course of my life. I hope that many more will be able to tread the same path."
"Education empowers people to make their own choices about their lives. It is a basic human right which is denied to too many. We can change that!"
In York’s 60th anniversary year, it was heartwarming to see the community spirit on Giving Day, helping to ensure York remains a welcoming, safe space for all.
Thank you so much to everyone who supported Giving Day 2023, our best Giving Day yet!
