Walk around York to transform mental health
Sign up for the 25 mile walking challenge taking place on the Saturday 18th May 2024 to raise funds for desperately needed mental health research and initiatives to transform mental health for everyone.
Participation is open to everyone, including students, staff, alumni and members of the public. We encourage all of our walkers to challenge themselves to take on the entire Great York Walk route which is 25miles/40km, however for those who would prefer a shorter route we also have 6.25miles/10km and 12.5miles/20km options.
We ask that every walker taking on the full route fundraise a minimum of £250 for Mentally Fit York, through our dedicated fundraising platform YuStart.
For much of my life I have found that walking long distances (often with four-legged friends) has been beneficial to my mental health. I see this event as an opportunity to use the act of walking, which has been so helpful to me, as a means of raising money that will help to improve the mental health of others.
A Great York Walker, 2023
Mentally Fit York
Mentally Fit York improves mental health and wellbeing in many forms, reaching out from the University to the city's communities and beyond.
Thanks to the thousands of incredibly generous walkers, runners and donors who’ve already shown their support for this cause, funding has been unlocked to support a range of on the ground initiatives and research projects including the establishment of the Institute for Mental Health Research at York.
