The York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI) is excited to announce the launch of its 2024/25 YESI Fellow Scheme, featuring three programs designed to foster interdisciplinary research and collaboration in the field of environmental sustainability. This year’s schemes—Discipline Hopping, Knowledge Exchange and International Fellows are open to researchers across the University of York, with a focus on generating innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
1. Discipline Hopping Scheme
The Discipline Hopping scheme encourages teams of YESI Fellows to collaborate across diverse academic fields, from the arts and humanities to social sciences, engineering, and medical sciences. Researchers will explore new synergies and avenues of inquiry that enhance interdisciplinary approaches to environmental science. By facilitating cross-disciplinary connections, this scheme aims to inspire fresh perspectives on environmental challenges and drive discovery within environmental science.
2. Knowledge Exchange Scheme
The Knowledge Exchange scheme supports research teams in engaging with end users to translate academic knowledge into real-world solutions. Projects will focus on key YESI themes, including Environment & Health, Resilient Socio-ecological Systems and Food, Water & Waste. This scheme emphasises the importance of making research actionable, ensuring that the outcomes of collaborative work are aligned with the needs of society and the environment.
3. International Fellows Scheme
The International Fellows scheme provides a platform for University of York staff to collaborate with international academic partners. Researchers will have the opportunity to visit each other’s institutions, fostering professional relationships and developing interdisciplinary approaches to environmental sustainability. This scheme aims to build global networks, promote knowledge exchange, and enhance the capacity for tackling environmental challenges on an international scale.
