YESI International Fellows Scheme 2023-2024 Launched
Enhancing Global Collaborations in Environmental Sustainability
The York Environment Sustainability Institute at York proudly announces the launch of the YESI International Fellows scheme for the academic year 2023-2024. This initiative is set to facilitate collaboration between University of York (UoY) staff and international academic partners, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to address global environmental sustainability challenges.
The scheme is made possible through investment from the University’s Environmental Sustainability at York (ESAY) initiative. The ESAY initiative has been instrumental in supporting environmental sustainability efforts at the University of York. Its investment in the YESI International Fellows scheme demonstrates a continued dedication to advancing sustainable practices and solutions.
The YESI International Fellows scheme offers three distinct models, each providing a unique opportunity for collaborative engagement:
- Model 1: Collaborators from overseas and UoY will exchange visits to each other's institutions for a duration of two weeks each way.
- Model 2: UoY collaborators will embark on a two-week visit to overseas institutions.
- Model 3: Overseas academic collaborators will undertake a 2-4 week visit to the University of York.
All successful applicants are expected to travel between March and September 2024, participating in fully immersive experiences to maximise the benefits for both the applicants and host institutions.
The scheme covers individual travel expenses, including visas, accommodation, a subsistence allowance, health insurance, and research-related expenses.
To be eligible, applicants must hold a PhD, possess a track record of publishing in English language journals, and have not published papers or developed proposals with their proposed collaborator(s) in the past five years. Overseas applicants must be based in countries on the DAC list of ODA recipients.
A key focus of the program is on producing tangible outcomes. Participants are expected to collaborate on joint research papers, outcomes or grant proposals, aligning with YESI's themes: Environment & Health, Resilient Ecosystems, Food, Water & Waste. These outputs should be submitted to relevant journals or grant opportunities within six months of the visit's conclusion.
The timetable for the scheme is as follows:
- 15 November 2023: Call publication and launch of application form
- 8 January 2024, 12:00 noon: Deadline for applications
- 16/19 January 2024 (TBC): Panel decision meeting, with notifications of successful projects shortly after.
