Join IGDC and YESI for an interactive seminar session with Dr Marília Luz David, visiting from the Brazilian Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Dr David will present her groundbreaking research on environmental governance in the Brazilian soy sector, exploring how corporate commitments address deforestation, climate change, and human rights, with a focus on the Amazon and Cerrado regions.
The session will include:
- A presentation on emerging governance models and traceability technologies in the soy sector.
- A discussion on the effectiveness and limitations of voluntary corporate agreements in addressing environmental challenges.
- Opportunities to engage with Dr. David and explore potential collaborations and institutional agreements.

Bio
Marília Luz David is a Lecturer in the Sociology Department and the Graduate Program in Sociology at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil. At UFRGS, she coordinates the Technology, Environment, and Society Research Group (TEMAS/UFRGS), which includes both undergraduate and graduate students, and she is also a part of the Research Group in Sociology of Food Practices (SOPAS/UFRGS). She serves on the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Association for Social Studies of Science and Technology (ESOCITE.BR). She holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Political Sociology from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil.
