Event details
The Cocoa Sustainability Challenge is a two-hour role-playing game which allows participants to travel all along the cocoa value chain. In your group - cocoa farmers, chocolate companies, an NGO or chocolate consumers - you will work out what you think is most important in 'cocoa sustainability' - better livelihoods and other socio-economic priorities? Lasting supply and other commercial interests? Or environmental priorities such as carbon sequestration? Different groups will have different priorities, some of which will clash with each other.
Over the two hours and five phases of the game, your group has to elaborate your own "chocolate vision" for what chocolate bar you would like to develop. Based on the material provided, you have to work out first of all what your own group's priorities are when it comes to cocoa sustainability, what market segment you want to sell into, and who gets what in the cocoa value chain (e.g. should only 5% go to cocoa farmers?). You then also have to negotiate with each other and find out how each other's priorities may diverge from your own group's.

And of course there will be some chocolate to taste to make your chocolate journey more enjoyable!
