Sisterhood in action

As many of you know, 2024 is a very special year for the Centre for Women’s Studies, as we are celebrating our 40th anniversary! Sisterhood in Action, though not as old as that, has been an annual tradition at CWS for many years. This internal conference is a chance to celebrate our community and to have a conference experience – for many, their first – in a low-stakes and welcoming environment.

We will have panels of 15-minute presentations and table talks (small discussion groups), accompanied by some fun feminist activities. For more information on previous conferences, please click here.  

All PhD and MA by Research Students  
Call for papers: You are encouraged to submit an abstract of 200-300 words for a 15- minute paper on any aspect of your research. The papers will be clustered in thematic panels.

Presentations will be followed by Q&A.  
 
Please email your abstract to cws.sisterhood@gmail.com by noon on Monday 13th February at the very latest.

Everyone

Exhibition: 
All CWS students are warmly invited to submit feminist-inspired creations (arts, crafts, writing, anything!) to be showcased at the Treehouse on the day of the conference. The work should be suitable for display on a board or table. If you’ve taken Feminist Cultural Activism, this is a great space to showcase your artifact. Please email us by February 13th with your piece’s medium, your preferred display method (board, table, free-standing), and a brief 50-100 word description (can be in draft form at this stage).

Table Talks:
These are small group discussions for all PhD and all MA students. Thematically grouped, they will provide an opportunity for a lively exchange of ideas. 

Open mic:
You can also join our open mic at the conference’s end with your performances, poetry, dance, manifestos etc. You might like to prepare something ahead of time or to just see what you are moved to express on the day! You will have around 3-5 minutes to perform.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
