The aim of this workshop will be to create a hospitable space for us to share some daily strategies for balancing the demands of our academic work with our mental health, as well as learning about the services and resources available to support us in managing our mental health and well-being at the university and locally, in York.
Feminist academic work is incredibly demanding, both intellectually and emotionally, and many of us have to manage that alongside various personal and sometimes family/care responsibilities, which can leave little time and headspace for looking after ourselves. Making the time to rest, see a counsellor, or even your pastoral supervisor can be quite challenging for all sorts of reasons, so this workshop has been designed to give us some sustainable tools and practices to make self-care – and, by proxy, academic study & research – a little easier and more doable on a regular basis. We also hope that this workshop will help us cultivate an ethos of feminist solidarity and mutual support in our (self-)care practices.
The workshop is for both students and staff and will take place within CWS, so it will be a kind and safe space. Do come along and encourage your peers to join. Any questions at all, don't hesitate to get in touch with Bobby at
