Our innovative problem-based approach to teaching creates a modern, intellectually stimulating learning environment that gives students a real awareness of the many social roles law plays, and is relevant to the legal profession and beyond.

Working as student law firms, students work in a team to tackle problems in a realistic way, ensuring that they experience and understand law in its social and theoretical contexts, and helping to develop the skills and techniques needed to work as a professional.

The student members decide how their firm operates and determine how to divide up the work, building working relationships with each other and learning how to deliver on responsibilities as they work together to identify the legal principles involved in the case and unravel the legal and contextual issues that lie at the heart of it, which will typically involve more than one area of law. In many situations interaction is required with other student firms, sometimes working alongside them, sometimes in opposition.

Tutor-facilitators provide guidance and support throughout, helping students to consider and reflect on the deeper social and theoretical issues, such as questions of justice, fairness and human rights.
