Additional Information Form
We’re committed to making sure everybody has a fair chance of getting into university.
A contextual offer via our Additional Information Form gives you the opportunity to let us know about any circumstances that might have prevented you from reaching your true academic potential that have not already been considered in the University's contextual offer policy.
Please note that the York Access Scheme is no longer active.
You should complete the Additional Information Form as soon as you submit your UCAS application. The Additional Information Form will close on 31 May 2025.
Through our contextual offer policy, we aim to promote a more equal, diverse and inclusive community at York. You should also consider if you are already eligible for the University's contextual offer policy in which case you may not need to complete this form.
Letting us know more details about your background and circumstances gives our admissions assessors more context in which to consider your UCAS application. After consideration, you could receive a reduced offer of up to two grades below the typical offer.

Who can apply?
To be eligible for a contextual offer via the Additional Information Form, you must:
- be a UK (home) student or have asylum seeker or refugee status. Find out how to determine your fee status.
- have applied via UCAS to study on an undergraduate programme at the University of York
- If you are a UK (home) student, you must have attended a UK state-funded school at Key Stage 4 (secondary school) and Key Stage 5 (sixth form or college).
If you are currently seeking asylum or have refugee status, the above criteria may not apply to you, and you should indicate this on your Additional Information Form.
You must also meet at least one of the following criteria:
- You are seeking asylum in the UK or have refugee status
- You are estranged from your family*
- Have experience of being under the care of your local authority.
*'Estranged’ describes someone who has little or no contact with their parents (either biological or adoptive), and the situation is likely to remain permanent.
If you do not meet the criteria outlined above, but have experienced significant or immediate challenges that have affected your academic performance, take a look at our mitigating circumstances policy. We don’t make reductions in response to mitigating circumstances but you may be eligible for extra consideration.
Applying
The Additional Information Form is now open for consideration for a contextual offer.
If you are eligible, please complete our Additional Information Form by 31 May 2025
Whilst applications are open, we encourage you to submit your form as soon as you have submitted your UCAS application.
After completing this form and receiving verification from your Additional Information Form referee, we will assess your eligibility for a contextual offer.
Our Access and Outreach team will assess your application to see whether you meet the criteria.
If eligible, you could receive a reduced offer of up to two grades below the typical offer. This will be updated on your UCAS hub. Please note that our contextual offer policy may mean that you have already received a reduced offer in which case you do not have to complete the form.
