Our distinguished faculty includes authors of world-leading textbooks, which are taught on this programme.
Your taught modules will blend subject-specific skills of operations management, logistics, supply-chain management, sustainability, business analytics and international business in a global context, alongside theoretical evaluation of contemporary issues in management.
You'll also develop your independent research skills before focusing your efforts on a final dissertation project. This intensive project will be independently led (academic research focus) or conducted in collaboration with a selected industry partner (applied focus).
Our distinguished faculty includes authors of world-leading textbooks, such as "Operations Management" (10th edition) by Nigel Slack, Alistair Brandon-Jones, and Nicola Burgess (2022), and "Sustainable Operations and Supply Chain Management" by Melanie Kreye (2023).
Our faculty members have conducted extensive research aligned with 'grand societal challenges' and UN Sustainable Development Goals, addressing issues from 'ending hunger' to developing 'responsible resource consumption practices'. Students at the University of York will benefit from cutting-edge research insights delivered by these experts, challenging their thinking and fostering a new generation of skilled professionals committed to responsible and sustainable practices.
In Semester 1, students complete three core modules. In Semester 2, students complete two core modules plus one optional module. Examples can be found below. Some option module combinations may not be possible. The options available to you will be confirmed after you begin your course.
In the summer semester, students can choose an applied research dissertation or an academic dissertation.

Dissertation
In the summer semester, you'll complete an Applied Dissertation or Research Dissertation. This intensive project will be independently led (academic research focus) or conducted in collaboration with a selected industry partner (applied focus).

You'll also put your skills of analysis, decision-making and creative thinking to the test in business-simulation games, working in teams to accomplish your goals.
We'll help you develop skills of research and investigation to support your independent learning.
You will be based in the School for Business and Society on Campus West. Most of your teaching will take place in the Church Lane Building, with additional contact hours elsewhere on Campus East and Campus West.
Our beautiful green campus offers a student-friendly setting in which to live and study, within easy reach of the action in the city centre. It's easy to get around campus - everything is within walking or pedalling distance, or you can always use the fast and frequent bus service.
Your modules are assessed with a mixture of essays and presentations. You'll also complete formative assignments, including presentations and literature reviews. You'll receive feedback on all the work you submit, helping you to understand your strengths and identify areas for improvement.
Your final assessment is an 8,000-word (Applied) or 10,000-word (Academic) dissertation, which makes up a third of your overall grade.
By completing the programme, you will be prepared with a broad set of skills necessary in today's marketplace. You will be taught by world leading academics in the field of logistics and supply chain management, and introduced to cutting-edge thought leadership in the field of resilience, responsibility, sustainability, social responsibility and ethical practice.
You will have ample opportunities to apply your knowledge and practice your skills to solve complex yet practical real-world issues. Our approach to teaching and assessment allows students to apply their knowledge and skills via real world case studies and, where possible, in collaboration with industry partners and representatives.
