The School of Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) offers degree courses at the heart of current thinking, research and debate in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Now is a most exciting time to study political economy, economic philosophy and political philosophy.

We are home to a prestigious and international community of students and academics at the forefront of research into the philosophical, economic, and political questions of our time, including their historical contexts and competing theoretical analyses. We are dedicated to outstanding teaching and to developing the potential of all our students in an intellectually robust, friendly and open learning environment.

The School of Philosophy, Politics and Economics cannot accept postgraduate taught or postgraduate research students.

Undergraduate students

English language requirements

IELTS: 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, the language requirements are part way down this page. The other requirements are not applicable.

Choosing your modules

You can only study PPE modules (those with the prefix 'PPE' or 'PEP') if you are already studying a PPE degree.  If you are not already studying a PPE degree, you can still take modules from Philosophy, Politics or Economics.

You can view modules in the module catalogue. To help you get started, we have written a short guide on how to use the module catalogue.

Teaching schedule

You can study in our department for the following periods:

  • Full academic year
  • Semester 1 only
  • Semester 2 only

Examination and assessment

Assessment is by examination or by essay submission during the Common Examination Periods at the end of each semester (alternate assessments may be available, please contact the department to find out more).
