The Department of Philosophy brings together stimulating teaching and original research in an informal, friendly setting. Engage with key issues at the centre of contemporary debates across a broad range of topics.

Undergraduate students

Academic requirements

If your home degree does not include philosophy, or includes it but only as a minor component, please choose Year 1 modules only.

Undergraduate English language requirements

ELTS: 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component (the language requirements are part way down this page. The other requirements are not relevant).

Choosing your modules

Please see the list of modules below. This list is indicative of the type of modules which may be available during your study period. Please note that not all modules advertised in the module catalogue are available to exchange and visiting students. Some of the modules indicated may not run, please check our module catalogue. Module choice and registration will take place during the first supervisory meeting. Learning agreements (if applicable) cannot be signed until this meeting.

Teaching schedule

You can study in our department for the following periods:

  • Full academic year
  • Semester 1 only
  • Semester 2 only

Examination and assessment

Assessment is mainly by essay and/or open exam during the Common Examination Periods at the end of each semester.
