The Department of Education is an open and friendly department, committed to excellence in research and teaching. Modules cover the concepts, theories and debates which underpin Education as a field of study. As a Visiting Student at York you'll be fully integrated into academic life at a world-class, research-led university.

Due to restrictions within the programmes the Department of Education is only open to undergraduate and postgraduate research students.

Undergraduate students

Academic requirements

You must be majoring in Education and you must specify Education as your 'first' department.

English language requirements

IELTS: 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component (the language requirements are part way down the page. The other requirements are not applicable).

Choosing your modules

You can view the department’s modules in the module catalogue. To help you get started, we have written a short guide on how to use the module catalogue.

After your place at York is confirmed, we will contact you to finalise your module choices.

If you’d like to choose modules from different departments, please be aware that time tabling clashes might restrict your choices.

Teaching schedule

You can study in our department for the following periods:

  • Full academic year
  • Semester 1 only
  • Semester 2 only

Examination and assessment

Assessment is mainly by examination or course work during the Examination Periods at the end of each semester.
Course work is submitted online via the University's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
