The Department of Education is an open and friendly department, committed to excellence in research and teaching. Modules cover the concepts, theories and debates which underpin Education as a field of study. As a visiting student at York you'll be fully integrated into academic life at a world-class, research-led university.

Due to restrictions within the programmes the Department of Education is not open to postgraduate taught students.

Undergraduate students

You must be majoring in Education and you must specify Education as your 'first' department.

Teaching schedule

You can study in our department for the following periods:

  • Full academic year
  • Semester 1 only
  • Semester 2 only

Examination and assessment

Assessment is mainly by examination or course work during the Examination Periods at the end of each semester.
Course work is submitted online via the University's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Postgraduate students

Due to restrictions within the programmes the Department of Education is not open to postgraduate taught students.

Choosing your modules

Please see the list of modules below. This list is indicative of the type of modules which may be available during your study period. Please note that not all modules advertised in the module catalogue are available to exchange and visiting students. You will be contacted by the department once your place is confirmed to discuss your module choices.

If you wish to study modules from more than one academic department please be aware that timetables may clash.

English language requirements

Undergraduate

IELTS: 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component (the language requirements are part way down the page. The other requirements are not applicable).

Postgraduate research

IELTS: 6.5, with no less than 6.0 in each component (this information is partway down the page under other Education - other courses.)
