Music Education Group: A Community Fund Case Study
The Music Education Group (MEG) was awarded funding by the Community Fund (then known as Active York) to extend their existing project.
MEG was formed in the early 2000’s as a student group seeking to facilitate the educational and social development of York’s school children through the delivery of music workshops. The student group worked closely with York Students' Union and the Music Department at the University to ensure that the project would be sustainable beyond the initial funding.
Funding awarded to MEG was used predominantly for initial set-up costs such as musical instruments that the group use for their workshops and concerts. MEG has successfully continued to grow, both in terms of volunteers participating and overall reach in the community over the years. They now run music workshops not just in schools, but also across hospitals, nurseries, care homes and mental health units throughout York.
