Each September, we recruit new Postgraduate Student Ambassadors to join our existing team.

Our Postgraduate Student Ambassadors assist at a variety of events, both on campus, online and at external fairs.

Their role is to give a fair and accurate representation of the University from a student perspective; this insight is highly valued by prospective students.

This is a flexible, paid, ad-hoc position, which can easily fit around your study. All we ask is that you commit to work at least 10 hours in an academic year.

The rate of pay is currently £12.28 p/hr (plus holiday pay).

Applications will open on Sunday 15 September at 9am.

  • Open Days - both on campus and online
  • Student panels and talks
  • Campus tours for prospective students and parents/guardians
  • Student led online chats
  • Blog and digital content
  • You will need to be a role model for prospective students
  • You should be proactive, enthusiastic, reliable and punctual
  • You will need to provide helpful insight into university life at the University of York

Compulsory training is provided.

Right to work

You will need to provide proof of your right to work in the UK.

DBS check

As you will sometimes be working with under 18s, we require a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check for all ambassadors. This is paid for by the University.

Being a Student Ambassador helps you develop the following skills:

  • Communication - talking to a range of people on a one-to-one basis or to large groups
  • Team work - co-ordinating your work with other Ambassadors and University staff
  • Social and cultural awareness - meeting and working with people from a range of backgrounds
  • Problem solving/using your initiative - you may face unexpected challenges, which require you to change your approach. These incidents may also require resilience, persistence, tact, creativity and innovation.
