Each June and September, we recruit new International Student Ambassadors to join our team, if we have vacancies.

Our ambassadors assist at a variety of online events as well as leading campus tours, chatting to prospective students on Unibuddy and creating engaging content about their experiences here at York.

Their role is to give a fair and accurate representation of the University from a student perspective; this insight is highly valued by prospective students, as well as their parents and other supporters.

This is a flexible, paid, part-time position which you can fit easily around your studies. You will be an ambassador for the University and a role model for prospective students.

The rate of pay is currently £12.28 p/hr (plus holiday pay).

Applications are currently closed. The next round of applications will open on Sunday 15 September. The deadline for applications will be Tuesday 15 October.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Progressing (or continuing) international fee-paying student for the relevant academic year
  • UK based for their studies and enrolled on a full-time course from September of the relevant academic year
  • You must pass a Right to Work check and complete a Data Protection package once offered the role before starting any work

International Student Ambassadors are expected to be involved in a range of Student Recruitment and International Recruitment Team activities. The most frequent examples are:

  • Tours of campus
  • Communication with potential students via Unibuddy
  • Profiles/blogging
  • Online events
  • Attendance at off-campus events
  • Administrative duties

Your hours will be flexible in nature and will be allocated on a mutually acceptable basis. Events can take place on weekdays, evenings, weekends; both during and outside of University semester time.

International Student Ambassadors should have a good understanding of departments and courses currently offered (or be willing to learn), and of the University's facilities and services.

The role is open to current international students (this means any student paying overseas tuition fees) who are currently living in the UK.

  • Responsible, reliable and a good timekeeper
  • Diplomatic, confident, friendly, approachable and enthusiastic
  • Have the ability to take the initiative and be proactive about tasks
  • Interact well and enjoy working with a wide range of people including students, teachers, parents and careers advisers
  • Comfortable discussing all aspects of student life with members of the public clearly and confidently
