Posted on 17 April 2023

As we approach the introduction of semesters next academic year, welcome to the last ever UoY Summer Term! Here’s your undergraduate student news summary of key things happening this week.

UoY community update

Industrial action update
We anticipate there will be new announcements this week on industrial action taking place at the University - please keep an eye on your inbox for the latest news.

Fees and accommodation payment reminder
A quick reminder that if you pay your own tuition fees or accommodation charges, a payment instalment is due at the end of April. The easiest way to pay is via the ‘My Finance’ section in e:Vision. If you have set up a direct debit to pay your fees/accommodation, this will be automatically taken from your chosen bank account around the due date and you’ll receive a notification of the amount beforehand.

Budget food on campus all day
YUSU are now offering budget hot food on campus all day for a combined total cost of £1.20. You can get a 40p breakfast in the Courtyard, 40p jacket potatoes at the Glasshouse at lunchtime and 40p hot soup in The Kitchen at Alcuin between 3.30pm-4.30pm.

***Today is the last day to register to vote***
Have your say on issues that affect students in York, including accommodation and transport in the city. Register to vote in the forthcoming local elections, make sure you have voter ID if you plan to vote in person, and come to the local hustings event on campus this week.

Artificial intelligence use in assessments
You will have seen our communication over the spring break about Artificial Intelligence use in assessment. If you use generative AI to complete an assessment, you run the risk of being found to have committed academic misconduct.

3. Make new friends and connections

Sign up to meet groups of other students to expand your uni network! Student Connect returns for Summer Term for four weeks only. Whether you make new friends, discover another part of campus, or go to a different cafe, this is a great opportunity to make new connections. Sign up for Student Connect.

4. Work begins on new Student Centre site

Central car park is partially closed from today (Monday 17 April) as work to prepare the site for the new Student Centre begins. Want to know more about the new Student Centre? Our dedicated Student Centre web pages feature the latest visuals and proposed plans of each floor.

5. Your chance to shape the new Students’ Union

Our two Students’ Unions are coming together to form one student-led and student-focused Union and YUSU and GSA want your thoughts - including suggestions for a new name! Let us know what you want from a new Students’ Union and be in with a chance of winning £100.
