Make sure you’re up to date with your vaccinations
The UK Healthy Security Agency has recently reported a re-emergence of meningitis B. Meningitis symptoms, which may not all be present, include:

  • severe headache
  • dislike of bright light
  • neck stiffness
  • nausea and vomiting
  • confusion and drowsiness
  • convulsions/seizures
  • red/purple rash which does not fade on pressure

All students need to be up to date with vaccinations against Covid-19, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) and meningococcal MenACWY vaccines. Arrange these with your doctor. Find out more about infectious illnesses.

1. Study success tip: sleep

Research shows there are strong links between sleep, learning and memory - aim for between seven and nine hours of sleep a night. Have trouble sleeping? There are lots of things you can do to help yourself. Our information on sleep contains advice on how to get a good night’s rest. See our other top tips for study and exam success.

2. “..the more I do, the more I realise I can and the more confident and relaxed I feel…”

Our series of ‘Confidence to speak and listen’ workshops starting on Wednesday 4 May gives you opportunities to speak up, listen and practise interactions without being judged, critiqued or evaluated. Reflect on what confidence is and how we can help each other build it, and take part in improvisation games, elevator pitches, mini-presentations and collaborative tasks. Sign up to all four sessions.

3. Considering a career in research?

Our ‘Working in Research’ event on Wednesday 4 May will help you gain an insight into a range of research-based career opportunities in sectors such as academia, public sector, not for profit and commercial sectors. Develop your career ambitions by connecting with, and learning from, research professionals in this informal setting. Sign up to find out more about a career in research.
