UoY community update

Give your feedback on the new Student Centre
The external design of the new Student Centre has been unveiled but you can still give your feedback on how internal spaces should be used. What kind of spaces do students need? Watch Vice-Chancellor Charlie Jeffery and our Student Unions Presidents outline how you can get involved with the design of the new Student Centre.

1. Join us for our Pride celebrations

Join us for our Progress Pride Flag raising event on Greg’s Place on Wednesday 15 June between 3-4pm and help kickstart our Pride celebrations. We’ll then take part in the York Pride parade, marching from the Minister to the Knavesmire on Saturday 18 June, and host a pride-themed stall at the racecourse, with a variety of family-friendly activities and contributions from departments across the University. Find out more about our Pride celebrations.

2. Dissertation writing for undergraduates

Don’t know where to begin with writing your dissertation? In this Academic Skills Community session on Tuesday 21 June we will introduce the basics of writing a dissertation. What is the rationale behind writing your dissertation - why are you even writing one? What is expected of you as an author? What can you get out of the process? Find out how knowing the answers to these questions can improve your mark. Book your place on the dissertation writing workshop.

3. A practical guide to maths and statistics

If your programme includes elements of maths, see our online guide to maths and statistics for help and support. Find resources and practice tests to develop your understanding of statistical concepts and help you use statistics software. For personalised advice, you can also book a one-to-one appointment with the Maths Skills Centre.

4. Free bike maintenance workshops

The Bike Doctor is hosting free bike maintenance workshops on campus for students in June 2022. Sign up for sessions on chains, brakes, and pedals or e-bikes and emergency repairs. Find out about the Bike Doctor sessions.

5. International conversations with new people

Do you want to improve your understanding of different world cultures? Would you like to improve both your speaking and listening skills through informal conversation? Our International Conversation Afternoons (ICA) take place every Wednesday and are open to all - whether you want to practise your language skills or just meet new people. Refreshments are provided. Find out more about our International Conversation Afternoons (ICA).
