Things to know this week - 27 September 2021

Posted on 27 September 2021

Welcome to all new and returning students! This is your student news summary of key things happening this week.

Covid update summary

Protect. Respect. Be kind.
Here at York, we are a respectful community and everyone needs to do their bit to keep everyone safe. Our Covid-19 Community Charter outlines what you can expect from the University and also what we expect from you, including testing yourself regularly and wearing a face covering when needed. It also includes advice on starting conversations around these Covid measures.

Covid vaccine pop-up clinics on campus
There are a number of Covid vaccine pop-up clinics on campus this week. No appointment is needed, and you don't need a GP registration or NHS number. Simply walk in for your first jab, or for your second jab if it's at least eight weeks since you had your first.

Emergency Student Support Fund
A further round of the Emergency Student Support Fund is open for returning (not new) students. Bursaries up to a value of £500 are available to support pandemic-related costs, including accommodation, food and travel costs. Application deadline: Tuesday 28 September. Don’t forget, there is also general assistance funding available to all students.

Should you need to self-isolate
Remember, should you need to self-isolate, let us know to unlock our package of support, including activity packs and e-vouchers.

3. Get paid to be a Student Ambassador

We’re working hard to raise aspirations and expand the recruitment of students who are currently under-represented in higher education and we would like you to get involved. Find out about our paid roles to represent the University and communicate what student life is like at York. There are schemes for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Apply to be a student ambassador.

4. A chance to develop your language skills

Ever wanted to learn another language or take your language skills to the next level? Apply by Friday 1 October. Come to a Languages for All information session this week to find out more.

5. Celebrate National Inclusion Week

National Inclusion Week celebrates everyday inclusion. It’s an opportunity to connect with someone else to help foster inclusive practice.
