Coronavirus: update summary

Unlock your potential in lockdown
Careers and Placements have put together a list of actions to unlock your potential that will help you prepare for life after lockdown.

End of term arrangements
We are working hard to support you as we come to the end of term - whether you plan to stay in York or travel somewhere else for the holidays. If travelling, we encourage you to book a rapid results covid test.

Pulse survey results from last week with 1200 participants show:

  • When asked ‘How are you?’ - 66% of respondents replied they were okay to very happy.
  • Respondents top tips for lockdown are exercise, fresh air, and catching up with family and friends

1. Five steps to wellbeing: Be active

Earlier this term, we outlined Five steps to wellbeing and this seems especially important during lockdown. This week, we’re focusing on being active. From online sport classes and the YorActive Trail to the more gentle Campus East Nature Walk or campus art and sculpture spotting, there is plenty you can still do. You can now also find out what's going on with our new student events listing. View the student events web page or download the MyUoY app, where you can personalise your schedule.

2. When the unexpected happens, understand your options

Sometimes things happen that can seriously impair your performance in an assessment or prevent you undertaking the assessment at the scheduled time. If these events are unforeseeable and exceptional (ie serious and unusual) you may be able to defer an assessment or take it again. Find out about exceptional circumstances.

3. Celebrate Disability History Month

Disability History Month celebrates the lives and achievements of disabled people. There is a range of events across York, including art exhibitions, workshops and forums. Hear the inspiring story of visually impaired marathon runner (and York alumna) Charlotte Ellis as she discusses her remarkable sporting journey. Book your place at Countdown to success: Marathon runner Charlotte Ellis in conversation.

4. Explore your archives

Add value to your assignments and research by exploring the unique resources, only available here at York, relating to a wide range of academic subjects, held on campus at the Borthwick Institute for Archives. Find out more about Yorkshire, York NHS Trust, Southern African studies, writing and performance, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, and Yorkshire Philosophical Society collections. Find out why you should explore your archives. #UoYTips

5. University mailroom discounts

Do you have any mail or Christmas cards to post in the run up to the festive season? Take advantage of reduced postage rates at the University Mailroom locations on campus.
