Latte levy increase
Starting 5 August, our latte levy charge will increase to 35p at all Eat and Drink outlets across campus. You can avoid the latte levy by bringing your own cup, using our crockery and drinking in, or purchasing and using a YORCUP.New Duo prompt page
Last week, IT Services updated Duo two-factor authentication to display a new version of the Duo prompt page.
1. Elevate your academic writing
Over the next few weeks, the Academic Skills Community is hosting curated workshops to enhance every part of your academic writing:
- 2 Aug: Academic Style: what it is and how to achieve it - Elevate your writing with sophisticated grammar that communicates your research with clarity and precision
- 19 Aug: Editing and Proofreading - Learn how to perfect your drafts and ensure your writing is free from errors
Can’t make these sessions? Book an appointment with a Writing Centre tutor who can provide personalised guidance on your writing or check out our online academic writing guide.
2. Working with data
Book a one-to-one statistics appointment to discuss any queries about managing data, using software, or running statistical tests. Appointments are free, friendly and confidential, and are available online or on campus. If you can't find a suitable time, email maths-skills-centre@york.ac.uk with your available days and times and we will arrange an appointment at a time that works for you.
3. 10 tips for video editing
Develop your digital creativity this summer with forthcoming skills sessions, including 10 tips for video editing (20 Aug). Whether you're creating videos for social media, making films to promote your work, or working with short videos for any other purpose, come along to this session to learn how to get started.
4. Could you contribute to the EDI Support Hub?
We are looking for students from a variety of backgrounds to help develop an EDI Support Hub and share their experiences and celebrate the diversity within our BAME population.
5. Your new Students’ Union
From 1 August, GSA and YUSU will merge to form the University of York Students’ Union - or York SU for short. Although there’s lots of change happening, the Union still exists to support you. There are still Advice and Support services, with staff available to offer postgraduate-specific support and representation, and they will continue to put on events and offer societies, socials and trips for postgraduate students.
