Welcome to your taught postgraduate student news summary of key things happening this week.

1. Changes to First Bus routes and fares

First Bus are introducing fare increases across all the city from 24 July. Discount codes are available for all staff and students to use on weekly and monthly tickets across routes to and from the University. Read details about the fare increases and how to access discounts.

2. Putting things off?

Are you putting off that piece of work? We know that the pressures of university life can encourage procrastination and form mental blocks between you and starting work. For more help, read our top tips on beating procrastination. Remember that the Library is open 8am - midnight, seven days a week, and you can also come along to the academic writing retreat on Fridays to help you focus. (Can’t get the link to work? 3. How to get even better marks

Looking to move from good to even better in your academic work? Come to our ‘From merit to distinction’ workshop on Tuesday 8 August for help in deciding where to focus your energies. If you are aiming high, you will get ideas for what markers might see in your work to convince them your work deserves that top grade.

4. Summer academic skills support

Academic skills support continues over the summer. Forthcoming academic skills workshops include the fourth in our PGT Dissertation Writing series, focusing on discussions and conclusions. Plus, there are sessions on grammar, vocabulary, academic style, as well as academic reading and writing.

5. GSA Chinese Folklore Month

Check out the GSA’s Chinese Folklore Month. Come along to a performance of ‘Hua Mulan’ (a character made familiar from the Disney animation) or attend the kite making and calligraphy workshop.
