Students Experiences of Step Ahead

Explore some of the remarkable experiences students have had at Step Ahead.

Harrison, History and Politics

"Step Ahead was a cracking experience, full of vigorous insights and moments of good humour. The reason Step Ahead works is because it is run largely by students, for students. All of the activities are targeted at new students, and I could not imagine a better introduction to university life."

Alice, Sociology

"I have had minimal problems when coming to uni because I attended Step Ahead. I have felt supported and confident, and I would even say that I have been less anxious than some of my friends who don’t have diagnosed anxiety but didn’t attend step ahead. I have felt very relaxed and hugely confident at university. I think it would be a very different experience and I don't think I would have settled in as well/quickly if I had not been to Step Ahead. I also think it was incredibly beneficial for Step Ahead to happen so close to the move in day as it has meant that the environment was very familiar to me and also provided me with support in the couple of weeks prior to university when I was most anxious, it helped relieve my fear of the unknown."

Amy, Language and Linguistic Science

"I met one of my closest friends through Step Ahead who introduced me to my friend group. Friendships I made during freshers faded but that one and the subsequent ones didn’t - getting so many similar minded people in a room together helped immensely. It can be hard with ADHD and autism to meet people who understand you, and Step Ahead helped me find those people."

Emma, Environment and Geography

"I met two of my flatmates on Step Ahead and we're still really close even after months at university. I also met someone who is on my course and we're really close from Step Ahead. Establishing new friendships made me feel more at ease for going to university as the social side was the part I was most worried about."
