Information for current students
Personal and professional development
The Careers and Placements team can help you get involved in volunteering activities, enterprise opportunities, internships and recognised placement years. These are a great way for you to get to know other students, help the York community, and enhance your employability. Find out more by attending the Careers drop-in sessions from 11am-1pm every week day during semesters in the Careers and Placement Building, or you can book an online or in person appointment via Handshake.
The student ambassador scheme recruits current York students to work with schools and prospective students to communicate what life is like at York and what it means to be a student. Students from underrepresented Student Communities are particularly encouraged to apply for this role.
Support for wellbeing
There are plenty of people you can approach for advice or a chat when you're at York.
See how the Student Hub can help you with support and advice or, for help with mental health and wellbeing, see health and wellbeing help and support.
Meeting other students
Student Communities social events
Our Student Communities events programme has been created to provide a fun and safe environment where you can take part in activities (at a reduced cost) and meet other students while doing so. This year’s Student Communities social events have included pottery painting; cocktail nights; axe throwing and bouldering.
You can find out about upcoming Student Communities events in our weekly (during term time) Student Communities newsletter and through our social media. If you don't currently receive our weekly newsletter and believe you belong to one of the Student Communities please complete our Student Communities Registration Form.
Change of plan
Sometimes things happen that can get in the way of you progressing through your degree programme in the usual way.
If something happens that seriously impairs your performance or prevents you undertaking the assessment at the scheduled time, you may be able to defer an assessment or take it again.
If you need to change your plan during your time at university, there are always options available, including transferring to another course, taking a leave of absence (time out) or switching from full-time to part-time status.
Inclusive facilities on campus
The University of York is constantly striving to make the University campus inclusive. Some of the facilities currently offered on campus include:
- All gender toilets
- Baby changing facilities
- Breastfeeding spaces
- Changing places toilet
- Hearing loops
- High chairs
