Module summary

Grading, Effects and Finishing is a module designed to teach you the theory and practice of professional post production workflows from colour
theory and creative looks and effects, through to the mastering and delivery of film and television media using industry standard techniques.

Module aims

The module aims:

  • To provide an essential grounding in the principles and practice of the picture finishing processes, colour grading and effects.
  • To develop and enhance a range of both creative and technical skills through an understanding of professional workflows.

Module learning outcomes

Upon completion of this module you are expected to be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of advanced production picture finishing processes and how these can be applied to the creation of professionally produced media programmes.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between, and working knowledge of stages and processes involved in, film and television picture finishing through the use of Non-Linear video Editing (NLE) systems in conjunction with Picture Finishing systems in an 'off-line/on-line' model.
  • Support their creative output with an understanding of colour grading for film and television from base grades through to creative looks.
  • Have an understanding of the possibilities of incorporating some visual effects at the picture finishing stages.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, and ability to use, the core features of an industry-standard Picture Finishing system and related software for editing, grading and mastering of film, television and social media platforms.
