Individual Project (BCI) - TFT00088H
Module summary
In this module you will research and deliver a substantial final year project around a topic of your own devising. There is no limitation on the project you can pursue as long as it meets university assessment guidelines. Likely projects might include: a formal dissertation on a subject in the creative industries (9000 words); a business plan or proposal (proposal document together with evaluative and contextual essay / report of 4500 words); a promotional campaign featuring moving image and other creative outputs, together with a 4500 word evaluative and contextual essay / report; a production project proposal featuring treatment / design and key logistical workflow and finance documents.

Module aims
Over the course of this module, you can expect to:
- Develop in-depth knowledge of a specialist area - or set of practices - in the creative industries
- Develop your individual research and project-management skills. Consolidate the range of learning you have encountered across the degree programme.
- Enhance your writing, evaluative, critical analysis and presentational skills in line with professional expectations
Module learning outcomes
At the end of this module, you will be expected to:
- Be able to work independently on a substantial project involving the use of appropriate research techniques, practical skills and other methodologies.
- Identify topics and formulate appropriate research questions - and/or practical procedures - on the way towards their pursuit and execution.
- Understand how to address a specific research question through the deployment of appropriate critical, analytical, evidence-gathering, creative and/or technical activities and techniques.
- Situate your project - and determine its potential for innovation - by evaluating existing research or other literature, other forms of precedent or relevant industrial contexts and practices.
- Deploy appropriate writing, presentation and other techniques to the compelling delivery of your research work to appropriate audiences.

Additional assessment information
The final individual project should consist of one of the following:
- A long form essay – 9000 words - exploring an industrial issue, business performance or strategic question; some area of creative output (e.g. the work of a filmmaker, or studio for example, of a playwright, games designer, or events company); or some form of sector case study, probably comparing different entities working in the same part of the creative industries.
- A business plan (4500 words) and contextual essay (4500 words) - for a new company, project, or initiative. (This cannot be something you have pitched before, either in whole or in part)
- A marketing strategy for a real-world project, company or institution (4500 words) and contextual essay (4500 words)
- A content format proposal (e.g. for a programme, film, theatre season, game, etc) (4500 words) and contextual essay (4500 words)
- A production project - physical or performance (up to 25 minutes in length) with contextual essay (4500 words). Any production projects will be subject to scheduling and availability of resources.
- A survey, or data-gathering project: results of survey (4500 words) together with written analysis and account of process (4500 words)

Module feedback
You will receive written feedback in line with standard University turnaround times.
Written and oral feedback will be provided at the summative literature review stage
On-going feedback will be provided via the 6 supervisory sessions and three seminar / scaffolding sessions
