Module summary

In this module you will research and deliver a substantial project on a topic of your own devising in the creative and cultural sectors. The project and outputs will be negotiated and agreed between the student and the supervisor. The focus and format of the project may vary and include: a substantial piece of independent research on a subject of your own choice; a business strategy, plan or proposal; a marketing or communications strategy; a production project workflow with financial planning. As part of your project you may include the design, planning and/or execution of a creative and cultural output, provided this also includes a business/management component. This module enables students to apply the knowledge, research and study skills developed during the first two terms of the MA in Creative and Cultural Industries.

Module aims

  • Enhance your ability to successful lead, manage and/or collaborate on an individual real-world or theoretical project, consolidating advanced skills in design, planning and execution;

  • Develop research skills including formulating a proposal, devising research questions and applying disciplinary or cross-disciplinary methodological approaches;

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of a specialist area in the creative and cultural industries, contextualised within precedent, current or future contexts;

  • Enhance skills of analysis, reflection and critical evaluation through application to conceptual, theoretical and practical issues within a specialist area.

Module learning outcomes

  • Successfully produce a substantial, independent real-world or theoretical project of your own devising, demonstrating advanced skills in design, planning and execution and an excellent and systematic knowledge of the creative and cultural industries sector.

  • Contextualise your project within a critical evaluation of advanced conceptual, theoretical issues pertinent to the chosen.

  • To identify, research and analyse one or more practical examples, or case studies, illustrating an in-depth understanding of complex issues and ideas within the specialist chosen area.

Module feedback

Feedback to students : Students will receive feedback during the summer term to a sample of their writing (1 chapter); In addition there will be regular supervision sessions.

Indicative reading will be discussed individually with a supervisor.
