Module summary

In this module, students work in a group to design and develop an interactive media system of their own choice. Students are introduced to some group working software/hardware development processes during an introductory lecture and workshop. After this, students work together independently to develop their concept, pitch their idea and bring the product’s vision to a reality under guidance from an academic supervisor. Students will almost certainly encounter difficulties along the way, as working with other people can be tricky to manage! But, this module will gives students the opportunity to develop leadership, communication and team working skills which are vital in the interactive media industries. Students also end up producing high quality interactive systems, which can be used in portfolios and they should be proud of for years to come.

Module Aims:

  • To develop group working ability, giving and receiving ideas, modifying responses where appropriate.

  • To require development of a system that where individuals to take on separate inter-linking responsibilities.

  • To support reflective learning about team working challenges.

  • Demonstrate application of multimedia production systems within a software app development process.

  • Demonstrate application of a modern software development process, e.g. agile development.

  • Demonstrate ability to bring together disparate elements from different people to form a complete working system.

  • Demonstrate an ability to plan, organise, manage and implement a software app as part of a team.

Module feedback

Students will receive individual oral feedback at the weekly practical lab sessions.

Students will receive written feedback on coursework assignments using a proforma identifying key requirements and marks awarded for sections of the assignment. This will be available within 20 working days of submission, except in exceptional circumstances which will be communicated to the students.
