Module aims
The year abroad module component would aim to deepen students understanding of the diversity of politics and international relations by studying it in an institutional and cultural context outside the UK. An extra year of study will also allow students to develop more advanced academic skills as progression in politics and international relations is a cumulative process of learning by doing. Some students will take the opportunity to study in a non-English speaking country. This will improve their linguistic competency. All students who study abroad will improve their intercultural competence.
Module learning outcomes
By completing this module, students will:
- Demonstrate knowledge and appreciation of non-British traditions of political science and/or international relations;
- Demonstrate an understanding of non-British cultures.
Some students will:
- Demonstrate increased fluency in a foreign language in both speaking and writing.

Semester 1: end of January; Semester 2: end of June
For students studying at an overseas university evidence of fulfilment of obligations takes the form of signature of the learning agreement and proof of attendance on modules amounting to the required number of credits (ca. 30ECTs) (in the form of the instructor?s signature and host department stamp on our ?confirmation of attendance? form). It is the responsibility of the student to request the relevant evidence and to supply it to the Department of Politics. Note that there is no reassessment opportunity for this component of the assessment.

If a student fails either component of the assessment, he/she may be able to transfer to the appropriate single-subject Politics/Politics with International Relations/International Relations programme, as the student will have met the requirements to progress from Stage Two to Stage Three of that programme at the end of Year Two.
