Module aims
Alongside developing your practice as a composer for screen, this module aims to introduce you to practical and business aspects of the film music industry. The module is structured around regular seminars and individual tutorials across the semester in order to broaden knowledge in areas that support professional work in scoring. You will also be assigned an external professional screen composer during this semester who will be able to offer advice for this submission.
The submission may include scoring for an archived film, or collaborative work with filmmakers from within the School of Arts and Creative Technologies.
Module learning outcomes
By the end of the module, you should:
- have developed knowledge of processes involved in producing scores for screen;
- have developed knowledge about business aspects of the industry;
- have gained an understanding about aspects of conducting;
- have made steps in developing personal approaches to scoring

Portfolio of creative work with concise commentary of 1000 words (100%). Contents of portfolio to be agreed with the module tutor, total duration of music will normally be in the range 7-12 minutes.
